Makers Have the Gear
Raspberry Pi, Arduino and 3D-printing projects leave drawers full of unused microSDs.
#MakersForChange turns spare microSD cards into offline audio libraries for rural African women - no internet or literacy required.
Raspberry Pi, Arduino and 3D-printing projects leave drawers full of unused microSDs.
One reused card avoids 13 kg CO₂e and keeps plastic out of landfill.
Each card we preload with Audiopedia content reaches ≈ 5 women - especially where literacy and data plans are out of reach.
Dig into your maker drawer for any spare microSD (128 MB – 128 GB). Pop it in the post - one card is enough to start a chain of impact.
We secure-wipe and test each card, then preload Audiopedia audio - health, finance, farming, rights - in the local language. Your tech scrap becomes a pocket-sized talking library.
Community NGOs distribute the revived cards to rural women. 5 women per card gain life-changing knowledge - while 13 kg of CO₂ stays out of the atmosphere.

Makers for Change is the maker-powered arm of Audiopedia Foundation’s SD4Africa program. We upcycle spare microSD cards into offline audio libraries for rural African women.
You mail us any microSD (128 MB+). We secure-wipe, load Audiopedia audio, and local partners distribute the cards. One card ≈ 5 women reached.
The program primarily benefits African women in regions where feature phones are the main access point for information, empowering them with essential knowledge to improve their lives. 80 % of recipients rely on feature phones, not smartphones.
Slip cards in a envelope (address above). If you can’t wipe them, no worries - we’ll 7-pass erase for you.
Not a problem. You can also support SD4Africa by making a monetary donation, which helps fund the purchase and distribution of SD cards and related resources. Just click here
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please use our “Get in Touch” form. We’re here to help and provide all the details you need to get involved.
Any capacity works. Even a 256 MB card holds 150 hours of audio; larger cards simply reach more topics.
Right now we focus on microSD ´ because they fit feature phones. Stay tuned - join our email list and we’ll let you know if this changes.
