Why SD4Africa Matters

Connectivity Is Key

In low-connectivity areas, women rely on basic feature phones as their only source of information. Audiopedia delivers critical audio content - no literacy or internet required.

Circular Tech for Good

Every reused microSD card avoids 13 kg of CO₂ emissions and keeps plastic e-waste out of landfill. It’s a simple, scalable step toward circularity.

Real-World Impact

Each card preloaded with Audiopedia content reaches ~5 women - empowering them with knowledge on health, farming, finance, and more.

How It Works

Collect

Collect unused microSD cards from internal teams, IT departments, or decommissioned devices.

Revive

Audiopedia securely wipes and loads each card with localized, open-source audio content in partnership with local NGOs.

Empower

Cards are distributed to trusted community partners - delivering accessible knowledge directly to women in rural and underserved areas.

Frequently asked questions

What is SD4Africa?

SD4Africa is Audiopedia Foundation’s initiative to repurpose used micro SD cards, transforming them into carriers of vital audio educational content for African women.

How does the program work?

You mail us any microSD (128 MB+). We secure-wipe, load Audiopedia audio, and local partners distribute the cards. One card ≈ 5 women reached.

Who benefits from SD4Africa?

The program primarily benefits African women in regions where feature phones are the main access point for information, empowering them with essential knowledge to improve their lives. 80 % of recipients rely on feature phones, not smartphones.

How can I donate my SD cards?

Slip cards in a envelope (address above). If you can’t wipe them, no worries - we’ll 7-pass erase for you.
